What is "Moon River"? It is the opposition in love between need and want. In the movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's" we meet two characters, Holly and Paul. They make money off benefactors offering their companionship to them (including sex). They seem to live a fancy life, especially Holly with her jewerly and expensive dresses. In reality it is a hollow enterprise, as they don't feel any sentiments for those people. Those people are only means for them to live comfortably and rich. When they meet each other they realise that true love exists. A love that is not oriented by "I need this person to help me financially", but it is drove by a real desire of connection and being together without money transactions. Unfortunately this love has to fight against the fact that all the other people orbiting around Holly and Paul push them away. You cannot have a real and deep connection with someone unless you stop pretending to love other people. It is not a critic on loving more than one person at once. You can truly love more people as once, but you cannot really love somebody and pretending to do the same with somebody else. The pretending is always going to destroy the real. At the end love is a leap of faith, just like crossing a mile wide river. Holly and Paul need to let go of their insecurities and fears and let go of the image they created for themselves and try to risk it all by being together. In the movie that is exactly what happens, but in the original book the ending is not happy.
