Neuromielite ottica e sclerosi multipla: due malattie, due terapie
Neuromyelitis optica, long considered an aggressive variant of multiple sclerosis, is now recognized as a disease following the delineation of its precise pathophysiology, with characteristics clearly distinct from multiple sclerosis. What are the main differences between these two diseases, and how are new knowledge changing the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to neuromyelitis optica? We asked Professor Diego Centonze, Professor of Neurology at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and Head of the Neurology Unit at the IRCCS Neuromed, whom we met in Rome at the 54th Congress of the Italian Neurological Society.
