If the verification result conforms to the manufacturer's specifications, a calibration certificate is issued with the corresponding confirmation. Certification is used when calibration is performed or supervised by a state agency. Both variants serve only to determine the quality of the reading. The measuring instrument itself must not be tampered with. Adjustment is the term used to describe an intervention on the measuring instrument to minimize a detected measurement error. Typically, after adjustment, another calibration is performed to verify and document the final condition of the instrument after the procedure. Unlike a certification, which loses its validity after a legally prescribed period, the validity period of a calibration follows more practical specifications, such as the manufacturer's specifications, the requirements of a quality assurance standard, or internal company and customer-specific regulations.
