The Pollution Situation in Mui Ne is Heartbreaking 🇻🇳

Mui Ne is a fishing town that is nestled on the southeast coast of Vietnam. It's got a lot to offer as far as tourism goes - sand dunes, surfing beaches and a Fairy Stream (whatever the hell that is). There is a side to Mui Ne that you don't see on the holiday brochures though... Tash and I decided to rent out a bike and cycle down to the fishing village. What we saw shocked us. The plastic pollution was completely out of control and it seemed to be stemming from both the fishing and tourism industries. Plastic and other debris was littered everywhere and had visibly reached extremely unsustainable levels. This was devastating to see. Hopefully this video can shed some light on the pollution in Mũi Né. Huge cleanups and government intervention is needed here as the amount of litter was out of control. I'm not blaming the locals for partaking in these activities as they need to make their money and fishing is the primary industry for them do so here. What I am suggesting though, is that some education is needed to try and reduce the amount of waste that is ended up in the ocean and on the beaches. For now, there are some groups leading the clean up charge in Mui Ne, including the Keep Mui Ne Nice group. This group of volunteers head out every first Thursday of the month to collect waste and clean the beaches. Big props to them and hopefully they can continue to grow in the future.
