North Red Trout Lake Backcountry PART 1- Camp/Explore/Eat

Fall camping in the backcountry of Nova Scotia. I've been in the Waverely Salmon River Wilderness Area many times, but have never camped and explored around North Red Trout Lake. In this series (this is 1 of 2), Johnny, the dogs and I head in to make a new campsite, eat too much food, brew too much coffee and have a great weekend in the wild. We only had the weekend, so had from 2pm on Friday until 3pm on Sunday to enjoy the woods. The temps overnight were pretty warm... 15 c the first night and 5 c the second. Episode 1 covers day 1 and up to the supper of day 2. We both brought MRE ration meals for night one in order to save time. The portage in took about 3 hrs so we didn't make it to the potential camp site until 5pm. I brought Pulled Pork and Johnny had a Turkey Strip thing. They may not look ver appetising, but both were pretty tasty and more than enough food. Morning of Day 2 is sausage and egg sandwiches. We have a look at Frying Pan Hole lake as well as Birch Lake and then eat lunch over on Three Mile Lake before heading back to camp. It went up to around 21c during the day which is pretty warm for late October... Stay tuned for Episode 2 for the best steak sandwich I've ever had as well as a delicious breakfast followed by the journey home in beautiful weather.
