Key Cup Level

In carpenters' terms, a level is a tool used to see if something is parallel with the ground. In saxophone terms, this "level" is a tool used to see if the key cup is parallel with the tone hold. This level is a 4.3mm diameter steel rod, a couple millimeters shorter than the inside diameter of the key cup. Using a magnet to hold it in place, you can close the key cup gently onto the tone hole and see which side touches down first. You can do the same thing to compare the front to back gap. First you need a steel rod of the correct diameter. I ordered these 4.3mm rods (my calipers say they are actually 4.2mm.) They come in a variety of sizes.
