#history #shooting #blackpowder 📜Eugène Lefaucheux is a famous 19th century French gunsmith. His pinfire revolvers were sold throughout Europe and were also widely used in the American Civil War. With the arrival of central percussion, the pin system seems outdated. The Royal Navy wishes to change revolver, and Lefaucheux will propose a new revolver Mle1868. Next will come the 1870 model. The plans will be a little turned upside down by the Franco-Prussian war of 70-71. 4000 revolvers will be delivered by Lefaucheux to the Navy. The ministry for the war will claim 4000 new specimens, but with a modification, which according to Lefaucheux gave an additional cost to the revolvers. It is finally the MAS which had to manufacture (for a much higher cost) the revolvers models 1870 "N".
