Lake Toba is a large natural lake in Indonesia, located in the caldera of a supervolcano. It is 100 kilometers (62 mi) long, 30 kilometers (19 mi) wide, and 505 meters (1,657 ft) deep. It is located in the center of northern Sumatra, with a surface elevation of approximately 900 meters (2,953 ft). The lake stretches from 2.88°N 98.52°E to 2.35°N 99.1°E. It is the largest lake in Indonesia and the largest volcanic lake in the world.[1] Lake Toba was the site of a massive VEI 8 supervolcanic eruption approximately 69,000 to 77,000 years ago[2][3][4], which triggered global climate change. Current dating methods place the eruption at a more accurate date of 74,000 years ago.[5] This eruption was the largest explosive eruption on Earth in the last 25 million years. According to the Toba catastrophe theory, the eruption had a significant impact on human populations worldwide; its impact killed most of the people then living and is believed to have caused population declines in East Central Africa and India, thus affecting the genetic makeup of human populations worldwide to this day.[6] Scientists agree that the Toba eruption triggered a volcanic winter that caused global temperatures to drop by between 3 and 5 °C (5.4 and 9.0 °F), and up to 15 °C (27 °F) in high latitudes. Subsequent research in Lake Malawi, Central Africa, found ash deposits from the Toba eruption, but found no evidence of major climate change in East Africa.[7] On June 18, 2018, a ferry capsized on Lake Toba, killing over 190 people.[8] There is also a famous tourist spot, namely the Rangat Water Tour, precisely at the foot of Mount Pusuk Buhit. Rangat Water is warm water that comes from an erupting volcano. Pusuk Buhit itself is an active volcano that is very sacred to the Batak ethnic group, so various mystical stories are found in this mountain. This mountain is located on Samosir Island, and is the highest peak of all the highlands on Samosir Island. With a height of about 1,077 meters from Lake Toba, this mountain looks majestic. So if you are around the waters of Lake Toba, Mount Pusuk Buhit will be very clearly visible with its green peak with a combination of gray and covered by the surrounding clouds. Then when we swim in the Rangat Water there is no entrance fee, just enter, but after we finish bathing or swimming, we are required to eat at the Rangat Water bathing place.
