In this video, I’ll show you in detail how to install the Tein suspension on a Honda CRX (model years 1983–1986). Of course, a few problems came up during the process: Hood: The hood wouldn’t close because the strut stuck out too far. Solution: I ground down a suitable nut into a washer shape so the damper could be mounted deeper. Rear axle: There’s too little suspension travel here because the rear dampers determine the ride height. For the damping to work properly, the car has to be set quite low. If the springs are adjusted too high at the rear, the suspension bottoms out hard when the dampers extend over bumps. Front axle: The opposite problem occurs at the front. Since the rear setup requires the car to sit low, the front also has to be lowered a lot. That leaves only about 55 mm of maximum travel for the torsion bars and dampers. For this reason, the original torsion bars should be replaced with stronger versions with a 27 mm diameter (e.g. from Heeltoe Auto). Otherwise, the front end will hit the dampers on bumps. At the moment, I still have the original torsion bars installed. Conclusion: I’ve fixed these issues as best as I could so that the suspension now works reliably.
