Iyo Kailan Pa Man Angel Peña (1948 - 2014) Composer, arranger, and double bassist Angel Peña was born in 1921 and began his musical career as a guitarist. Through hard work and discipline, he made his way to the forefront of the Philippine music scene from the 1930’s to the 1960’s. Iyo Kailan Pa Man is a song about unrequited love. Written by one of the Philippines’ most notable pioneers of jazz music, the work belongs to the genre of Philippine Romantic Music known as the Kundiman. The song consists of a haunting melody that serves to reinforce its text which is a paradox of lament and hope.
