Painting a Rusted Truck in Acrylics
In this video I will be showing you how to create rust-like textures as well as color matching to your reference photo. This painting is the perfect painting for any beginner because it allows you to put in as much or as little detail as you wish and still allow for a fantastic finished piece. Although I detailed mine more extensively, this would also look great in a more "painterly" style. You can make it your own version by changing the background and foreground as well! As always, I am using Liquitex Basics paints because of my love for their transparency and ease when glazing. You will find the colors on my palette here: https://www.liquitex.com/us/products/... *Burnt Sienna *Raw Sienna *Burnt Umber *Raw Umber *Yellow Ochre *Naples Yellow *Cadmium Yellow *Cadmium Orange *Naphthol Crimson *Crimson *Green Grey *Ocean Green *Brilliant Yellow Green *Hooker's Green *Ultramarine Blue *Cobalt Blue *Cerulean Blue *Unbleached Titanium White *Titanium White *Mars Black I suggest using a Stay Wet Palette container during painting. For filming purposes, I only used a damp Stay Wet Palette sheet, but it is recommended to use the container and wet sponge that the palette comes with for paint preservation. Stay Wet Palette: https://www.amazon.com/Masterson-Sta-... I also used a variety of inexpensive brushes, however I suggest using which ever you are comfortable and adjust your brush size in coordination with the size of your canvas. The brushes featured in this video are listed here: 3/4" Mop Brush 3/4" Flat Brush #15 Flat Brush 5/8" Flat Brush #10 Flat Brush 3/8" Rake Brush #0 Round Brush 3/8" Angle Shader 1/2" Angle Shader 30/0 Liner Brush #6 Flat Brush 1/4" Angle Shader #2 Round Brush I chose to use a 16x20" Watercolor canvas, however this image would be suitable for larger canvases as well as medium textured canvases. I toned my canvas with a thin layer of Raw Umber (thinned with water) and then wiped off any excess with a paper towel before drawing on my sketch. The sketch was made with Carbothello Pastel Pencils and then lightly sprayed with Grumbacher Matte Final Fixative. A light coat of this is all that is needed to prevent your sketch from smearing during the painting process. Pastel Pencils: https://www.dickblick.com/products/st... Gumbacher Matte Final Fixative: https://www.michaels.com/grumbacher-f... Other items you will need include: *Water Bucket *Spray bottle *Cloth-like Paper Towels (I used Viva)
