Pushing Through the Discomfort
Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday! Some sketchbooks flow effortlessly, and this one was not quite like thet. The Etchr sketchbook with 100% cotton hot press watercolor paper looks beautiful and feels great in the hand. Still, I didn't love it. Pen felt dry and scratchy, and I noticed that the ink from my brush pen bled when I added watercolor, even after letting it dry for a while. Not ideal when you're impatient like me. Getting to know those limitations, and then being creative to work around them, pushed me to experiment with materials I wouldn't normally reach for. And some of those pages turned out to be real favorites. Part of this sketchbook was filled during a workshop about the use of color, in Spain with three incredible teachers, Isabel Sidell, Olivia Marcus, and Isabel Carmona. Also a couple of pages filled while sketching alongside 50+ urban sketchers. Color was everywhere that week, and it shows in my pages. Sometimes the sketchbooks you don't love, can teach you the most.
