John 4–5 reveals three common settings in which God orchestrates divine appointments: in personal comfort, in physical crises, and in prolonged Crying. Divine Appointment in Prolonged Crying (John 5:1–17). In this passage, Jesus meets a man who has suffered for thirty-eight years beside the Pool of Bethesda. What appears to be a story about one man's affliction is actually a powerful revelation of human suffering, God's heart, and the blindness of unbelief.
