Criccieth, North Wales. Early Spring Walk 2024 (with captions).

‪@walkingwithbill‬ takes a walk along the seafront at Criccieth North Wales in the early spring sunshine. Passing the native Welsh castle which was built by Llywelyn ap Iorweth (the great) in the early 13th Century. A town that was transformed by the arrival of the railway in the 19th Century and subsequent tourists which lead to a building boom. A very traditional Victorian seaside resort without the slot machines and penny arcades but with a sandy beach and cafe's and restaurants nearby. It caters for family's looking for a quiet destination without the distractions. The 13th Century castle which is in the care of CADW and is open to the public (entrance fee) between the months of April and November dominates the town on its rocky headland. It now lies in partial ruin after being sacked by Owain Glyndwr in 1404 to return the town to the Welsh after it had been occupied by the English Kings after the conquest of Gwynedd by Edward 1st. The castle was built by Llywelyn ap Iorweth (the great) and occupied by the Welsh until Llywelyn ap Gruffudd (the last) his grandson before the English occupied it. https://cadw.gov.wales/visit/places-t...
