Exploring the Magnificent Burghley House artworks that will blow your mind
Today I visited Burghley House here in Stamford. What a stunning house with remarkable art pieces. No artist could replicate these artworks in my opinion. Who painted all the room must have been very talented indeed. I really would recommend this location that is a part of Historic Houses membership. Location Burghley House, Peterborough, Stamford PE9 3JY A bit of history Built between 1555 and 1587, Burghley House in Stamford, Lincolnshire, is one of the grandest surviving Elizabethan "prodigy houses". It was constructed by Sir William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, to display his immense wealth and power. The Tudor Era (1555–1587)Creation: Sir William Cecil, Queen Elizabeth I’s closest advisor and spymaster, built Burghley near his birthplace. It cost £21,000 to construct and was modeled after the private lodgings of Richmond Palace.Royal Visits: Built to entertain royalty, the estate was frequently visited by Queen Elizabeth I. The 17th Century & The State Rooms baroque Transformations: In the late 17th century, the 5th Earl of Exeter extensively remodeled the interior. He filled the house with European art and commissioned lavish Baroque painted ceilings by Italian artist Antonio Verrio.Iconic Interiors: This period produced the famous Heaven Room (featuring floor and ceiling frescoes) and the Hell Staircase. The 18th Century & Capability Brown landscape Masterpiece: In the mid-1700s, the 9th Earl of Exeter commissioned the renowned landscape architect Lancelot "Capability" Brown. Brown transformed the surrounding parkland, adding a sweeping serpentine lake, a Palladian bridge, and extensive vistas. The 19th & 20th Centuries to Present titles and Trusts: The estate remained in the Cecil family, passing to the Earls and, later, the Marquesses of Exeter.Preservation: In 1961, the Burghley House Preservation Trust was established by the 6th Marquess to ensure the house, its grounds, and its extensive art collections survived as a permanent legacy. .................................................................
