This year's National Day celebrations saw the ROC Armed Forces Band and Archery Team present a spectacular performance, followed by another highlight and a captivating figure: Hsu Chieh-ting, the newly appointed female captain of the Army Band. Hsu graduated from the Department of Applied Arts, Music Division, Political Warfare Academy, and holds a Master of Music degree from National Taiwan Normal University. She has served as a company political instructor, band political instructor, deputy band captain, and battalion political instructor at the 104th Army Brigade. She is also the first female captain of the Army Band. The ROC Armed Forces Joint Band is composed of the Ministry of National Defense Demonstration Band and bands from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Among the many tall members of the band, Hsu Chieh-ting, relatively petite, stands out, radiating a heroic and spirited presence that attracts considerable attention. Currently, the commander of the Ministry of National Defense Joint Band is Colonel Tung Hao-yun. Previously, female officers have served as commanders in the Joint Band; retired former Navy Colonel Tsao Wei-chi was the first female commander. She graduated from the Department of Music, Political Warfare Academy in 1977 and later obtained a Master of Music degree from Tunghai University. She joined the Joint Band in 2006. She served as battalion commander for nearly 10 years before retiring in 2016. We hope to see the new female commander in the Army Band at various events in the future.
