We Drove to a Ghost Town That No Longer Exists | Dawson, New Mexico

We drove deep into northern New Mexico looking for a ghost town—but Dawson is almost completely gone. Once a thriving coal-mining town, Dawson was home to thousands of families before two devastating mine disasters and the eventual closure of the mines changed everything. Today, the townsite is no longer open to explore, elk move through the valley, and the cemetery is where Dawson’s story still remains. Join us as we leave camp, make the drive toward Dawson, find what may be one of the last remaining ruins, come across a herd of elk, and walk among the hundreds of white crosses at Dawson Cemetery. We share the history of the town, the tragedies that shaped it, and conduct a respectful spirit box session in one of New Mexico’s most haunting forgotten places. Every Road Has a Story—and this one was nearly erased. #GhostTown #NewMexico #Overlanding
