Here’s why the Fusion may not be the final Ford sedan in the U.S.

In this episode I provide the history of the Ford Fusion, a 4-door sedan that replaced both the Ford Taurus and Contour in 2006. The Fusion was originally going to be called the Futura, but Ford allowed the trademark to lapse after it stopped using the name in 1983, and the Futura name was taken over by Pep Boys. Mercury had a twin of the Fusion called the Milan, and it would be Mercury's last midsize sedan before the brand shut down in 2011. Lincoln had a version of the same car called the Zephyr, but it was renamed in 2007 to the MKZ. A second generation started in 2013, where it reached the top 10 in U.S. sales, before sales for the Fusion and other sedan models dropped over the following years. Ford announced in 2018 that it would end all sedan sales in North America by 2020, with the Fusion being the last one in July that year.
