I Made a 60s-Style Album on Tape. Was It Worth It?
I made a full 60s-style album on tape using cassette Portastudios, reel-to-reel machines and a handful of old recording gear. The album is called This Is a Time Machine, and it’s out now under The Magnetic Machines. Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/6eUGFo... Other links / limited cassette on Bandcamp: https://linktr.ee/Themagneticmachines This video pulls together the story behind the project, using clips from the five YouTube episodes that documented part of the album’s making. The finished record has 9 songs in total, moving through British pop, tape experiments, space rock, garage rock, psychedelia and the heavier edge of late 60s rock. This isn’t really about proving tape is better than digital. I wanted to see whether the limitations of old machines would shape the songs in a different way. Thanks for following the project. #TheMagneticMachines #TapeRecording #ReelToReel #CassetteRecording #60sMusic
