You are completely paralyzed. If you have ever experienced sleep paralysis, you know it's a horrible feeling. You are awake, but your body doesn't respond, and to make matters worse, you may start to have hallucinations, such as the feeling that someone is watching you. In English, there's even an urban legend about The Hatman, a dark figure with a hat that appears in the room and simply watches you, lurking, without moving… until it disappears.
