🇯🇵 Sony Watchman FD-40A Portable TV [TCE #0298]

A quick look at a portable B&W television called the Watchman FD-40A, built in 1985 by Sony. It has a 4" screen. These seem to be available at very reasonable (cheap) prices ... if one considers how much they probably originally retailed for. The reason, of course, is that analogue broadcasting has disappeared and thus they are considered of little practical use. BUT ... for retro computer enthusiasts who want a proper CRT, they are still very handy ... in my humble opinion: they take up little space on the workbench compared to a full size CRT, some old computers come with R/F output only for A/V (before modification), and some of these miniature TVs come with a composite video input which allows them to be readily used with all sorts of equipment still. And, they are "cool" 🤓 I don't have the special RCA-type splitter for the A/V input, but the TV will accept a composite video only input with a normal RCA cable. Maybe I'll have a hack at it as the special adaptor seems difficult to find ... so there might be a Part 2. I might also get another one of these so that I can completely disassemble, allowing us a proper look at the interesting CRT design! Other videos on portable televisions:    • Portable Televisions
