The Art of Wax: Mixing Oils with Cold Wax for Abstract Landscapes

Ever wondered how to create those soft, atmospheric textures in your abstract landscapes — the kind that feel like mist, memory and movement all at once? In this video I show how I use oils & cold wax medium to build rich, layered marks full of mystery and depth. I’m working over a scraped-back painting on oil paper, using a limited palette of phthalo blue, permanent rose, white and black — blended with Dorland’s Cold Wax Medium and using a palette knife, catalyst wedge, flat brush, mop brush and sponge. Whether you’re new to cold wax or looking for inspiration for your own abstract landscape practice, I hope this gives you ideas — and a little magic — for your next piece. And if you’re drawn to expressive, intuitive painting, come join me inside Abstract Horizons - my creative community for artists who want to paint with more freedom and emotion.
