I was deeply impressed when I set foot in Dermayu, or Indramayu. This ancient regency was founded 498 years ago, on October 7, 1527. Its settlement pattern is unique: a longitudinal or linear pattern, influenced by geographical factors, including the Cimanuk River, which supports trade and agricultural traffic. This is where history emerges as a regional identity, significantly influencing its social, cultural, economic, and ethnic makeup. One of the ethnic groups that shaped the Indramayu region is the Chinese. This ethnic group existed from the 16th to the 19th centuries, shaping the cultural and economic acculturation here.
