Prices for basic necessities have risen fivefold and rents nearly tenfold compared to three years ago, leading to heightened social conflict, including shootings between landlords and tenants. Even middle-class doctors and lawyers are turning to city-run, low-price restaurants, and an estimated 7 million children are dropping out of school to make ends meet.
