Alain Milon : "Moi, je ne connais pas de maladies incurables"
The Senate voted against the bill concerning the right to assisted dying. This bill was examined Monday evening in its second reading by senators in a public session. During the committee review of the text, the right-wing senators had already restricted this assistance in dying, transforming it into medical assistance in dying, which could only be requested a few days, or even a few hours, before death, thus limiting the scope of the text. The bill's rapporteur, Alain Milon, a Republican senator from Vaucluse, was a guest on the morning show "Bonjour Chez Vous." Among the senator's concerns was the possibility that medical research would "get rid of incurable diseases." Indeed, since these diseases entail very significant financial costs in terms of medical research, the Republican senator fears that patients will be directed more quickly toward assisted dying, rather than other medical treatments. The former doctor explained: "Personally, I don't know of any incurable diseases." They are incurable at this particular time. If we had had this law, in the 1950s, tuberculosis would have been an incurable disease. In the 1970s and 80s, polio. In the 1980s and 90s, breast cancer. 🔴 To stay up-to-date on all political and parliamentary news, subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/publicse... 👉 Our website: http://www.publicsenat.fr ▶️ Watch all our replays: https://www.publicsenat.fr/replay 📬 Subscribe to our newsletter: https://bit.ly/NewslettersPublicSenat 🚀 Follow us on social media: Facebook: / publicsenat X: / publicsenat Instagram: / publicsenat LinkedIn: / 2996809 Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/publicsenat.fr Threads: https://www.threads.net/@publicsenat TikTok: / publicsenat
