3 Days Shrimping the San Juans on a Ranger Tug R27: Deception Pass, Prevost Harbor, and 348 Shrimp

Spot prawns don’t come easy—unless you know exactly when to drop your pots. We loaded up Channel Surfing with three adults, three dogs, two shrimp pots, and four days of food and fuel and ran 78 miles from Everett through Deception Pass to Prevost Harbor on Stuart Island. Three days, two locations, and one current-window system that’s put limits in the boat for us every season since 2021. What’s in this video: See what a real 3-day shrimping trip on a Ranger Tug R27 looks like when the boat is fully loaded and actually working. We run Deception Pass with current, anchor at Prevost Harbor, and show the current-window system we use at Spieden Island that’s consistently produced shrimp for us. You’ll also see us set pots in 375 feet on sonar-confirmed shrimp, pull 348 spot prawns in 60 minutes across two pots, and process plus vacuum seal the catch aboard so we can store seven limits in the freezer. We also stop at the Roche Harbor Outstation for free moorage. Bottom line: this is what three days on a Ranger Tug R27 actually looks like in the Pacific Northwest. ↓ 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗖𝗘 ↓ Wondering what a Ranger Tug really costs to own?
