Alex Chilton - Live 1985-1999
There are several "interesting" live albums of Alex Chilton on the market--one-off gigs in Europe with pick up bands ('Live in London', 'Live in Anvers'), late-70s New York "No Wave" gigs ('Ocean Club '77'), an acoustic gig played when the power went out at New York's Knitting Factory club during a late-90s gig ('Electricity by Candlelight'), Big Star sets documenting versions of that band in the 1970s and 1990s...but there's never been a live album released of Alex Chilton playing with his regular trio during the period when he toured extensively as a solo artist (late 1984 to around 2000). These recordings vary in quality, and are from a variety of sources. 01) 0:00 Make a Little Love___1987-10-23 Grinnell, Iowa - Grinnell College (Jimmy Holiday, Mike Akopoff) (original by Lowell Fulsom, 1967) 02) 4:08 intro___1988-02-16 Stuttgart, Germany - Die Röhre 03) 4:58 B-A-B-Y___1985-10-12 Rotterdam, Holland - de Doelen, Pandora's Music Box Festival (David Porter, Isaac Hayes) (original recording by Carla Thomas, 1966) 04) 7:53 intro___1985-09-27 Baton Rouge, LA - VFW Hall 05) 8:04 Nobody's Fool___1985-09-27 Baton Rouge, LA - VFW Hall (Dan Penn, Bobby Emmons) (original by Dan Penn, 1973) 06) 11:24 When My Baby's Beside Me___1987-10-23 Grinnell, IA - Grinnell College (Alex Chilton, from Big Star "#1 Record") 07) 14:41 Goodnight My Love___1994-11-24 New Orleans, LA - The Howlin' Wolf (George Motola, John Marascalco) (original by Jesse Belvin, 1956) 08) 17:52 intro___1988-02-02 Hamburg, Germany - Markhallen 09) 18:07 With a Girl Like You___1988-02-02 Hamburg, Germany - Markhallen (Reg Presley) (original by The Troggs, 1966) 10) 20:37 intro___1985-06-22 Berkeley, CA - Berkeley Square Club 11) 21:36 The Look of Love___1985-06-22 Berkeley, CA - Berkeley Square Club (Burt Bacharach, Hal David, 1967) (original vocal version by Dusty Springfield) 12) 24:46 What's Your Sign Girl___1994-11-24 New Orleans, LA - Howlin' Wolf (Daniel Pearson, Anthony Sepe) (original version by Danny Pearson, 1978) 13) 29:40 Past, Present, Future___1987-12-15 Philadelphia, PA - Chestnut Cabaret (Jerry Leiber, Artie Butler, George “Shadow” Morton, 1966) (original by the Shangri-Las) 14) 33:21 Dalai Lama___1987-11-17 Chapel Hill, NC - Cat's Cradle (Alex Chilton) 15) 40:12 intro___1985-06-22 Berkeley, CA - Berkeley Square 16) 40:39 Fields of Clover___1985-06-22 Berkeley, CA - Berkeley Square (Dan Penn, Spooner Oldham, 1968) (Original by the Box Tops) 17) 43:43 I Could Go for You in a Big Way___1992-01-23 Saint Louis, Mo - Cicero's (Alex Chilton ?) 18) 46:41 Goldfinger___1987-12-15 Philadelphia, PA - The Chesnut Cabaret (John Barry, Leslie Bricusse, Anthony Newley, 1964) (Original by Shirley Bassey) 19) 49:33 Save Your Love for Me___1985-10-12 Rotterdam, Holland - de Doelen, Pandora's Music Box Festival (Woodrow Wilson "Buddy" Johnson, 1955) (adapted from Nancy Wilson / Cannonball Adderley arrangement, recorded 1961) 20) 54:52 I Wish You Would___1994-11-24 New Orleans, LA - The Howlin' Wolf (William “Billy Boy” Arnold) (Original by Billy Boy Arnold, 1955) 21) 59:22 Hook Me Up___1999-11-11 Philadelphia, PA - Khyber Pass Pub (Johnny "Guitar" Watson, 1995) 22) 1:04:26 Lost My Job__1988-02-14 Dornbirn, Austria (Alex Chilton, 1985) 23) 1:08:48 Motel Blues___1985-09-27 Baton Rouge, LA - VFW Hall (Loudin Wainwright III, 1971) (original by Loudin Wainwright, 1971) 24) 1:11:36 Bangkok___1985-10-12 Rotterdam, Holland - de Doelen, Pandora's Music Box Festival (Alex Chilton, 1978) 25) 1:14:30 Nice 'n' Easy___1989-05-09 Ardmore, PA - 23 East Cabaret (Alan Bergman, Marilyn Keith, Lew Spence, 1960) (arrangement adapted from Charlie Rich's 1973 recording) 26) 1:20:59 Sick and Tired___1994-11-24 New Orleans, LA - The Howlin' Wolf (Chris Kenner) (original version by Chris Kenner, 1957) 27) 1:24:30 I Will Turn Your Money Green___1994-11-24 New Orleans, LA - Howlin' Wolf (Furry Lewis) (original by Furry Lewis, 1928) 28) 1:27:36 (I Don't Know Why) But I Do___1994-11-24 New Orleans, LA - Howlin' Wolf (Paul Gayten and Bobby Charles as "Robert Guidry", 1961) (original version by Clarence "Frogman" Henry, 1961) 29) 1:31:18 Take It Off___1988-03-07 Bremen, Germany - Modernes (Eva Darby) (original recording by Groundhog Richardson, 1969) 30) 1:34:36 intro___1999-11-11 Philadelphia, PA - The Khyber Pass Pub 31) 1:34:56 Talk to Me___1999-11-11 Philadelphia, PA - The Khyber Pass Pub (Joe Seneca, 1958) (original version by Little Willie John, 1958) 32) 1:37:41 Train Kept a-Rollin'___1988-02-02 Hamburg, Germany - Markthallen (Tiny Bradshaw, 1951) (based on the 1956 arrangement by Johnny Burnette) 33) 1:41:58 Only the Lonely___1993-04-24 New Orleans, LA - The Howlin' Wolf (Jimmy Van Heusen, Sammy Cahn, 1958) (Original version by Frank Sinatra, 1958) Thanks to all the tapers and traders at Dime-a-dozen for sharing these recordings https://alexchilton.wordpress.com/201...
