And the topic of today's video: Checking the stator winding of a car generator using a continuity test using a multimeter. Before checking the stator winding with a multimeter, you must first inspect it for external damage to the insulation and burns in the winding caused by short circuits. If any visible damage is detected, the stator must be replaced. If no external damage is detected, we proceed to a step-by-step inspection of the stator winding integrity using a multimeter. I strongly advise against using incandescent lamps or 220V AC when checking the stator winding, as this is very dangerous!!! In any case, there are many testing methods, all of which are valid. Before testing, the stator must be disconnected from the diode bridge. The stator winding terminals must not be in contact with each other during testing. So, we need to check: the generator stator winding for open circuit continuity; the stator windings for short circuits to the housing, also in continuity mode; The first type of stator winding test is checking the stator winding for continuity. On the multimeter, select the continuity setting on the measurement scale. Alternately connect the multimeter probes between the three stator winding terminals. Between the 1st and 2nd stator winding terminals; Between the 2nd and 3rd stator winding terminals; Between the 1st and 3rd stator winding terminals; A beep from the multimeter in all three cases indicates the winding is intact. The second type of stator winding test is checking the stator winding for short circuits to the housing. On the multimeter, select the continuity setting on the measurement scale. Connect the probe to one of the winding terminals in turn, and the other to the stator housing.
