Germany’s answer to this vital need came in the form of the short-range reconnaissance aircraft Focke-Wulf Fw 189. Designed by the renowned engineer Kurt Tank, the Fw 189 initially faced skepticism from Luftwaffe officials. Yet it went on to become one of the most effective reconnaissance aircraft of the entire war, repeatedly proving its value throughout its service on the Eastern Front.
