Darlingtonia and the "Cool Roots" Myth

In this video, we're sharing what we’ve learned over the past 30 years of growing Darlingtonia californica (the cobra plant) and why it has such a reputation for being a finicky plant to grow. For years, the golden rule of Darlingtonia care has been that they require constantly cool roots to survive. We used to believe that too. But after three decades of trials, errors, and heartbreaking losses, we completely disagree. In 2010, we experienced a turning point in our understanding of this enigmatic plant when a mysterious die-off claimed 90% of our mother plants. But that disaster forced us to find the real missing link to Darlingtonia's survival in cultivation, and it’s not what you think! This video focuses entirely on the thought process and experience behind our conclusions. Because we're condensing 30 years of experience into one video, we will present our updated guidelines in a separate video.
