himalion: halcyon days - wind rose

“wind rose” is the thrid song to emerge out of “halcyon days (a live performance of WYSIATI, a record by himalion)” on January 13 of 2025 himalion - the indie-folk collective from Aveiro founded by Diogo Sarabando - released WYSIATI WYSIATI, himalion’s sophomore record, was a major worldwide collaborative effort. The first seeds were laid out during an artistic residency at Lost in Pico in Ilha do Pico (Azores). Following that period, Diogo enrolled in a transformative “School of Song” coursed led by “Robin Pecknold” of the Seattle band “Fleet Foxes”. School of Song’s focus on community building and educational safe harbour approach served as a catalyst for the exploration of WYSIATI’s crux: the mind doesn’t account for chance, and falsely assumes the future will be similar to the past at the end of the course Robin graciously donated a professional recording and mixing budget to Diogo which allowed him to collaborate with a greater spectrum of musicians, particularly from the region of Aveiro WYSIATI - which was mixed by Phil Weinrobe and mastered by Josh Bonati - was presented live in various formats throughout Portugal with a small “SOLO SET” incursion to Germany Live, himalion usually present their songs in a different approach from the record. The classical and acoustic guitars are often replaced by Diogo’s and Luís’ electric guitars, Diogo’s and Bea’s soft whispered hazy vocals are delivered in a more direct and forward fashion, orchestral elements are replaced by casiotone keyboards, the hofner bass lines remain secured by Xavier while the sax improv of Sam and the myriad of percussive elements present on the record are gloriously adapted by Micael Lourenço, breathing new life to the arrangements. All of this allows for a more "fresh air" and, at times, "progressive rock" approach to the songs, with no two performances being alike one year after WYSIATI’s release, the group got together at their current rehearsal space (casa da música in Ílhavo) to record a live 360º session. The goal was simple: 3 takes of the full live set, from start to finish, no headphones and respecting each other’s dynamics. Bernardo and Joel at haff delta came over to film the session which was lighted by Hugo’s work.
