WALKS IN DORSET at LITTLEBREDY & LONG BREDY (& THE GREY MARE AND HER COLTS) (4K)

In this episode of my series “Walks in Dorset”, I take a 6.5 mile circular walk from the village of Littlebredy which is located 7 miles West of Dorchester. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan. I parked my car in Littlebredy and started off with a wander through the village, passing by the Walled Garden and on to the Church of St Michael & All Angels. Following the River Bride, I passed a magnificent waterfall & enchanting lake. At the cricket pitch, to the East of the village, I headed South past Bridehead House and uphill towards Farm Wood. At an ancient stone, I headed West to visit The Grey Mare & her Colts - a Neolithic Long Barrow - and then on to the Kingston Russell Stone Circle - 18 ancient stones arranged in an oval shape (90ft X 60ft) that originates from the Neolithic or Bronze Age. My route then took me North along a section of the MacMillan Way, passing by Lower Kingston Russell Farm and on to the village of Long Bredy. After visiting the Church of St Peter at Long Bredy, I continued along the MacMillan Way before heading back to Littlebredy. There were some stunning countryside views on the walk including sightings of The Hardy Monument (to the East) & the sea (to the South). NB: As from 2nd June 2025, following the sale of the Estate, I believe that there is no longer public access to the lake & waterfall at Little Bredy. Map courtesy of Google Maps.
