The Whiskey Crusaders review The Sassenach Blended Scotch Whisky - The Spirit of Home Limited Batch Release which comes in at 92 proof. It starts in ex bourbon casks and is then finished in Madeira casks. The Sassenach was founded by Sam Heughan who is a Scotsman and plays Jamie Frasor on the hit Starz Series Outlander. Sassenach means outsider/stranger in Gaelic starting in the 1700’s usually referring to English or Lowland Scots. The Sassenach is inspired by Highland landscapes of ancient peaks, hidden glens, rising morning mists, fresh water and firm oak run deep in its veins. It was founded in 2019. Sam Heughan refused to do a "white" label and just throw his name on a bottle to be celebrity endorsed. He wanted to actually be involved in the process so he helped with the choosing all of it in the blend. It took 20 tries to get it right and he even at the last minute he made them change it to 46% so they had to get new labels. He designed the label, the bottle, the box, the name, and they are their own importer as well now. He is a peat head, but this one is unpeated to appeal to new whisky drinkers. It is made at the Loch Lomond distillery as they make both malt and grain whisky there. On Fraser’s Ridge in the show it has a still. He actually knows a lot about whisky and loves Balcones as well. The Sassenach takes you to the glens and mountains of Scotland with also a nod to fine Japanese blends in his travels. Sam Heughan has a new book called Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other and a TV show call Men in Kilts: A Road Trip with Sam and Graham McTavish where they travel the countryside of Scotland and write and video their experiences there. He is rumored to be the next 007. There is a unicorn on it since it’s the national animal of Scotland which represents purity, innocence, and power in Celtic mythology.
