Thursday, June 11, 2026. I passed by the progress of the Cerro Candela cut and the Central Highway widening project. The big news is that they've already paved the remaining section of the service road, right in front of the hill's retaining wall. I started my drive from west to east on the service road. From here, the new asphalt begins on the service road in front of the Cerro Candela retaining wall. Likewise, the concrete sidewalks and curbs in this section are already finished; in fact, they just need to paint the road markings on the new asphalt. Meanwhile, a small section of the turnoff to María Mariátegui Avenue has also been paved. The Cerro Candela retaining wall is also completely finished. It looks quite imposing, especially when you walk right past it. You can also see that they've planted grass in the median. A small stream has formed in this area, apparently due to a broken water or sewer pipe. On the Central Highway expansion project, earthmoving continues. Regarding the area around the gas station, the structure is still intact, but it will most likely be demolished or cut down very soon to allow the work to proceed.
