Making an Ash Recurve Bow
Making an ash selfbow using hand tools. The bow draws 35 lbs at 28". It's extremely smooth and fast shooter. Tips overlays and arrow shelf are made from Zebra wood. I used natural leather for handle wrap and lineen twine for bow string. The bow is heat treated and it took 1" of set. I'm very happy with the outcome. I named the bow "Phoenix". To build this bow I used ash (Fraxinus excelsior) wood. At widest limbs are 2 1/4 " wide. What are advantages of longbows and recurve bows?
