Paintings hanging in churches, religious education classes, Sunday sermons, and multi-million-dollar Hollywood blockbusters have created and perpetuated in us a specific vision of Christ's suffering. But how much historical truth is there in it? We examined the Stations of the Cross, the crucifixion, and the resurrection of Jesus with an expert: the biblical scholar and Franciscan Father Dr. Jakub Waszkowiak. Father Dr. Jakub Waszkowiak was ordained a priest in Jerusalem in 2003, and in 2012 he completed his bachelor's degree at the Franciscan Biblical College (Studium Biblicum Franciscanum), also in Jerusalem. He earned his doctorate in biblical theology from the Faculty of Theology of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń in 2015. He currently lives in Israel, serving in the Custody of the Holy Land. In the podcast "No to Piątek," Father Waszkowiak discusses the disagreement among biblical scholars regarding the interpretation of certain passages of Holy Scripture. "When it comes to minor details, these disagreements are very common, but when we talk about the main message, they are nonexistent. (...) Many articles and publications appear, and we conduct discussions at the scholarly level to clarify these issues," the Franciscan says. "It's important to remember that if I publicly debate with Mr. Majewski, if I dispute certain of his statements, it's because he says things that aren't written, even though he claims they are, or vice versa," adds Father Jakub Waszkowiak. We'll ask him why he decided to record several videos and post them on YouTube, as a form of polemic with a well-known Polish biblical scholar, Mr. Marcin Majewski. In the podcast "No to Piątek," Father Waszkowiak also debunks several myths related to Jesus's Stations of the Cross, the crucifixion, and the resurrection.
