Kosher Grocery Haul and Produce Prep | How I Batch-Prep Fruits and Vegetables | Family of 6
Grocery Haul/Kosher/Healthy Grocery Haul/Batch Prep Session/Kitchen Efficiency Tips/How to Keep Vegetables Fresh Longer/Jewish Orthodox Life/Judaism/Jewish Mom In this video you will see what a typical grocery shopping haul looks like for my Jewish Orthodox family of 6. We keep kosher, so all the food we purchase is kosher, either inherently or certified. You will also see how I prep my fresh produce in batches to save time and create efficiency in the kitchen. I also share some tips on how I store vegetables to keep them fresh longer. We try to eat as healthy as possible with minimal processed food, so I buy a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables (in the summer I grow a backyard garden). All fresh fruits and vegetables are inherently kosher, (I'm not going to get into shmitta laws here) although certain items must be specially prepared and/or are sometimes avoided because of the difficulty of checking for bugs. One aspect of kosher is dietary prohibitions such as ingesting any blood, treife meat, bugs, etc. So when it comes to produce, the biggest thing is cleaning them and making sure there's no bugs on/in them. In order to prevent eating bugs, and also just to clean food in general from the pesticides/preservatives/dirt that may be on them, it is necessary to wash with a veggie wash and check the produce carefully, especially leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, etc. Note; When it comes to what different Orthodox Jewish groups consider permissible/kosher, there is nuance among different groups. This is especially apparent at Passover, but also in other ways. Some groups may not eat cruciferous vegetables at all, but others do. Same with leafy vegetables/herbs/berries. Some do, some don't. So the way I do it may be different than what other people do. I am still learning myself, and I don't want anyone to think that I know it all, I'm just a person trying their best. Check with a Rabbi if you have questions about kosher issues. Hope you enjoy the video!
