Orengo Questions Why people were arrested when the government had allowed June 25 demos
Governor James Orengo has urged the court to take judicial notice of the government’s own statement indicating that the June 25, 2026 protests were authorized. Orengo argued that, based on remarks by the Cabinet Secretary for Interior, the demonstrations were lawful, making it unreasonable for citizens to be arrested and charged while exercising their constitutional right to peaceful protest. He maintained that the arrests of individuals participating in an officially recognized demonstration raise concerns over the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms guaranteed under the Constitution.
