What is an airgun? First, a brief overview of what airguns are: Airguns work by converting gas energy into mechanical energy. Airguns are used in a variety of ways: from target practice and firearms training to small game hunting and military tactical games (hardball and paintball). An important characteristic of an airgun is its power: Up to 3 J: for shooting training, airsoft (6mm and 8mm calibers) Up to 7.5 J: airguns for paintball, hardball (4.5mm caliber), and hunting small pests Up to 25 J: calibers from 4.5 to 6.35 mm for hunting and sport; models of this power require registration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and are not sold at Forest-Home. The pneumatic PMs discussed in this article typically have a power of up to 3 J, and a bullet velocity of 100 to 120 m/s. For comparison, the bullet velocity of a real Makarov pistol is 315 m/s. It may seem that the differences between the models are insignificant, but this is not entirely true. They exist. One of the differences between pneumatic PMs is the presence of a bolt action when firing. This feature is called a blowback. It adds realism, but at the expense of increased gas consumption and a slight decrease in bullet velocity. It's important to remember that this will cause the pistol to experience recoil, which can affect accuracy. Pistols with this feature, of course, have a spring under the slide. The pistol barrel can also vary. It can be made with or without rifling. Oddly enough, in the case of an air pistol, rifling inside the barrel is a disadvantage rather than an advantage, since metal pellets do not fit into these rifling grooves. Some gas from the cylinder also escapes through these rifling grooves, reducing power. The explanation for this phenomenon is simple: many factories have huge production lines for rifled barrels, and their use in air pistols reduces the cost of production. Pneumatic PM magazines can also be roughly divided into two types. There are one-piece magazines that hold the cylinder and bullets, after which the magazine is inserted into the pistol, just like with real-life equivalents. However, in some cases, the cylinder is housed separately, which usually requires removing the plug from the pistol grip.
