Egyptologist Explains Why Exodus Gods & Kings Fails (2014)

Exodus Gods and Kings is not a particularly strong depiction of ancient Egypt or biblical history. The script takes a kind of middle-of-the-road approach, where it tries to adapt the biblical story of Moses and the Exodus into a semi-historically realistic fashion. Unfortunately, it winds up with something that doesn't satisfy any particular audience. It's not sincere enough for the faithful, and it's not authentic or dispassionate enough for those who do not believe in the religious tale.
