Lochanside bagpipe harmonies
My own 'seconds' for John MacLellan's "Lochanside" - download the sheet music (and lots more!) at ► / jennabagpipes Generally speaking, harmonies for run-of-the-mill marches are just parallel thirds (meaning two notes above or two notes below the main melody). It's a beautiful texture, but sometimes it obscures the melody's natural chord progression, and can sound awkward. So before I wrote these harmonies, I started with a harmonic analysis, and worked in a little counterpoint instead of staying strictly parallel to the 'firsts'. (Firsts, seconds, parallel thirds... sounds like an Abbott and Costello bit) Read more about Lochanside ► https://www.pipesdrums.com/article/lo...
