Fitting the manifold locating rings has eliminated leaks where the intake manifold mates to the 12G295 “Cooper” head. With that corrected, it was evident that additional attention was needed to bring the carb linkage/adjustments into spec. The .060" skimmed 12G295 head on a 948cc block reduces the combustion chambers from the lazy factory 28.3cc down to roughly 24.5cc. Combined with the +.040 overbore (~980cc), this safely places the static compression ratio right around a crisp 9.2:1 to 9.5:1—perfect for making the AC Dodd RT camshaft shine without risking detonation on pump gas.
