Kilgobnet Cumann na mBan and the War of Independence
A century ago, the women of Cumann na mBan played a critically important role in the Irish War of Independence, a role which has often been understated and overlooked. This is the story of three remarkable women who were members of the Cumann na mBan in mid-Kerry and who often put their safety and lives at risk in their efforts to achieve an Irish republic. Thanks to recently published accounts in the Military Archives, their story can now be told for the first time. I am grateful to relatives who have shared images and information.
