An Evening With Najuok Tongyik

In this week's "evening with" Nelson Kwaje hosts author Nyajuok Tongyik for a discussion on the role of the diaspora in developing South Sudan. Nyajuok Tongyik is a mother of three children, a retired US Army Nurse, author, community leader, mentor, successful entrepreneur, and women's rights advocate. In 2020, Nyajuok founded a Nonprofit Organization called I Am NyaTongyik Foundation. Her organization provides resources for South Sudanese families and youth in Africa and the diaspora, assisting them in healing from all childhood victimizations. The working Arm of the foundation, ROSS Girls', mission is to educate, empower, and support change toward equality by ending dominance, oppression, and abuse while encouraging survivors to speak up about their past traumas to promote healing. In addition, she is also advocating for the girl child's right to education in South Sudanese communities worldwide. The I Am NyaTongyik foundation offers scholarships to South Sudanese students throughout East Africa. In 2021, Nyajuok released her Best Selling Memoir, "I Am My Mother's Wildest Dream," which has global waves in the South Sudanese communities. During her recent six-country East Africa book tour, she advocated for ending child marriages/forced marriages, eliminating gender-based violence, and reducing high dowry prices. Her story resonated with law and policymakers in South Sudan and has resulted in the Governors of Central Equatoria and the Lake State enacting laws against child marriages, effective immediately.
