Puntarobics - 52:09 Genre: Folk, World & Country Style: Punta, Dancehall This is an album I looked for for about a year and a half before finally being able to track down a copy. I can’t remember where I first heard about it, but the description was positively mental to me, and the music definitely reflects that! For the uninitiated, Punta (or in this case punta rock, sometimes Belizian punta) is a form of Garifuna music. As I’m sure you can imagine, the Punta Rebels (including members such as the illustrious drummer and percussionist Denmark Flores) are from Belize. Although punta itself is solely of the Garifuna peoples (especially of Saint Vincent and The Grenadines), punta rock takes influence from calypso and soca music as well, making it a genre all its own, even though there is still a very strong connection to punta proper. I’m so happy I was able to track down this record and share it with you all. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! As always, please email me at [email protected] if you would like a video removed! I'm happy to oblige all requests.
