Brian Carn Pleaded Guilty to Tax Evasion—So Why the Same Offering Pressure?
Brian Carn, just days after being sentenced to 9 months in federal prison over serious tax issues, is still back in the pulpit pushing what looks like the same unbiblical offering culture that has harmed so many people. According to the Department of Justice, Carn pleaded guilty to obstructing the IRS’s efforts to collect more than $600,000 in taxes, and local reporting says he was sentenced to 9 months in federal prison. But instead of seeing repentance, humility, transparency, and a serious correction of course, we are still hearing the same type of spiritual manipulation: pressure-filled giving, prophetic promises tied to money, and language that makes people feel like their breakthrough depends on sowing into the “man of God.” This is exactly why so many people are tired of modern offering manipulation. The issue is not biblical giving. Christians should be generous. The issue is when giving is twisted into a transaction, when people are made to feel guilty, pressured, or spiritually threatened, and when leaders who have mishandled money still turn around and ask the people for more. In this video, we are going to talk about Brian Carn’s recent sentencing, why his offering tactics are so troubling, and how the Bible gives us a much different picture of generosity. Biblical giving should be cheerful, voluntary, transparent, and centered on worship — not fear, hype, status, or promises of guaranteed financial miracles. When a preacher has a public record involving financial deception, the last thing the church should do is blindly defend him while ignoring the fruit. We need discernment. We need accountability. And we need to stop letting gifted speakers use spiritual language to cover manipulation. This is not about hating on anyone. This is about asking a serious question: How can someone be sentenced for tax deception and still stand before people asking for money like nothing happened? Let’s talk about it.
