He earned a 2nd dan in judo in high school and a 6th dan in Shorinji Kempo while at Kinki University. During his time at Shorinji, he was a powerful fighter, even serving as a member of the Byakuren-tai, known as the personal guard of founder Doshin So. However, he left Shorinji Kempo after competing in a karate tournament in search of actual combat. In 1984, he founded the International Karate-Kenpo Federation Byakuren Kaikan, and participated in tournaments himself, achieving high rankings. Since then, earning the nickname "the strongest invader," Byakuren Kaikan has become a major player in the world of full-contact karate. Because Byakuren Kaikan is based on Shorinji Kempo, it also has notable counter techniques. The "Mune Otoshi" technique shown in this video is my favorite. I think it's called "Kata Mune Otoshi" in Shorinji Kempo. I think it was a 2nd to 3rd grade technique, but it's an interesting and versatile technique.
