Gubei starts slow. Stone streets, canal reflections, the kind of afternoon that feels almost ordinary. Then the light changes. From below, i watched the Great Wall turn gold — lantern by lantern, tower by tower, until the whole ridge was glowing above the rooftops. I took the cable car up in the dark. Then more stairs. Many more stairs. At the top, the wind was too strong for anything but silence, so I let the music carry what words couldn't. I didn't stay long.
