C&O Canal Towpath Bike Tour // Day 4 (with a Dog)
#biketour #bikepacking #bikecamping #adventurecouple Welcome back! After completing the GAP Trail it only made sense for us to continue the trail to Washington DC. So after a night in a hotel, we were able to shower and do some laundry! We felt brand new and ready to hit the trail. We knew that the Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) Canal Towpath would be a bit more rugged than the well manicured GAP Trail but we were ready for the challenge. Our only concern that would keep us from successfully making it to Washington DC would be the Maisha's trailer (which held up fantastically). Thank you Burley Tail Wagon Trailer!!! So we headed south east from Cumberland, MD 185 miles to Washington DC along the canal. In todays video, we biked the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath from Knoxville, MD to Washington DC for a total of 65.20 miles. Although this was not our original plan the miles were going fast! We wanted to stay at Swain Lock Hiker/Biker Campground 17 miles from DC so the next morning we would ride into DC midafternoon and rent the car then leave. However, this campsite was overrun by non-hiker and bikers and had vehicle access so we just didn't feel comfortable staying there. So we biked the 17 additional miles with the last 6-7 miles as the sun was setting to get to a nice warm shower and bed in a way too overpriced hotel. Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches! We were so glad we did these two trails and highly recommend them to anyone thinking about it. If you are new to bike packing these two trails are perfect for you 1st bike tour. We hope you enjoy this video and comment below if you have any questions about our gear or about the GAP & C&O towpath. We would love to hear from you! Don't forget to subscribe!!
