Are there typical signs that allow us to recognize giftedness? Do gifted individuals recognize each other? Modern society hasn't become a factory for giftedness, even though companies are conducting research and experiments to accelerate cognitive performance. Today, gifted individuals represent approximately 2% of the population, and these figures have remained stable for years. To recognize giftedness, there are several behaviors to look for. In a gifted individual, the brain's cognitive functions are highly activated and in a constant state of alertness. That is to say, the brain absorbs and analyzes all information endlessly. This is what is called divergent thinking. All this information can be overwhelming, sometimes even stressful, but it's also a powerful source of stimulation, bringing both a little pain and a little pleasure. To define someone with high intellectual potential (HIP), a simple way would be to start every sentence with "too much." Too many thoughts, too many questions, too many emotions, too much hyperactivity, too much talking, too much silence—HIP individuals experience all of life's events with extraordinary intensity. This is simply because high intellectual potential has hypersensitive neural receptors; they perceive information from their environment in an extremely subtle way. Not all intellectually gifted individuals function in the same way. For example, not all intellectually gifted individuals will necessarily be overwhelmed by their emotions. Some HIP individuals are more connected to their mental and intellectual capacities and don't suffer at all from their giftedness. They dedicate themselves to everything that fascinates them and seem tireless. They tend to invest little in the social sphere, except in relationships where they can delve deeply into topics and thus learn. For intellectually gifted individuals, where hypersensitivity is very active, the way they function is different. Intellectual abilities are often blocked by emotional excesses that disrupt proper brain function. A highly sensitive gifted person will tend to be anxious, more easily stressed, and above all, they have a lot of self-doubt and can spend years searching for themselves before finding their way. Even today, it's important to know that the vast majority of giftedness diagnoses are made after the age of 30, which is a real shame because it represents lost time for their potential. It's crucial to understand that only a diagnosis made by a psychologist can confirm a diagnosis of intellectual giftedness.
